India vs Pak 3rd One Day – Pakistan crush India
India vs Pakistan 3rd One Day
Pakistan - 319 / 9 in 50 overs
India - 213/a.o. in 41.4 overs
Inzi called it right the first time this one day series and everything went right for Pakistan thereafter. Electing to bat on a belter, Pakistan amassed 319 runs in spite of the early loss of the hit man Afridi. Pakistan’s approach was to have their wickets intact and make a slog towards the latter part of the innings. Nothing fancy was attempted in the first 15 overs. The game plan worked with Butt and Malik carrying out the sketch to perfection. Butt went on to score a century and Malik made a quick 75. With 9 wickets in booty at the 32nd over – the entire Pakistani brigade that walked out whipped the Indian bowlers.
Chasing a target of over 300 needed the Indian batsmen to apply themselves in the middle and preserve two things – Wickets and Pressure. India managed to add them both to their camp by the end of 12 overs by losing 5 wickets hence mounting a lot of pressure. They lost Sehwag, Sachin, Ganguly, Dhoni and Yuvraj and suddenly they were staring at a huge score with non left to tackle the fired up Pakistani attack. Irfan stood alone but it was too late. The Indian chase required a cameo, and yes – it did find one in the opposite camp – Naved-ul-Hassan Rana. Rana bowled with pace and swing claiming six wickets and taming the Indians. Pakistanis are fighters and what a comeback – the series just gets interesting!!!
