India trounced Pakistan in the 5th and final one dayer and won the series 4-1. The man of the moment – Yuvraj Singh! He along with Dhoni mauled the fiery Pakistani attack and chased 286 with ease. India completed the victory with 8 wickets in hand and to say it was a big win would be an understatement.
Going into the game without the big guns like Sachin, Sehwag, Pathan – the youngsters did have to play a big part to win the game, which is exactly what they did. It was a good toss to win for Dravid and put Pakistan to bat. Pakistan started off well and managed the first 10 overs with no trouble. Agarkar and Zaheer looked very ordinary. Sreesanth was introduced into the attack and immediately snared the strong Pak batting lineup. The big wicket of Malik immediately put Pakistan into the backseat. Pakistan however recovered and posted a decent total. A total of more than 300 were expected in a pitch such as this.
India started off slow, but it just went on to prove the old adage – Slow and Steady wins the race! They lagged behind in all stages of the game, but kept the wickets intact. Yuvraj seems to be maturing every game and he is proving to be a finisher of the game – which is so heartening to see. He scored yet another century. Dhoni pundered the Pakistani attack scoring 77 off just 56 balls. This man has pulled off some incredible victories in the recent past.
Coming back from losing the final test and the first one day, it had been a commendable performance by India in the one day series. Winning is a habit and they will have to continue doing just that. India still does have answered the Bowling department, which definitely is a concern. Test matches cannot be won without taking the 20 wickets and its time finds variety in the bowling attack.
India goes on to meet England at home and there is more cricket in the offing…
