India vs SL: 3rd ODI – Dhoni demolishes the Sri Lankans…

Sri Lanka: 298/4 (50 ov)
India: 303/4 (46.1 ov)

Man of the Match: M S Dhoni

In what was being anticipated as a possible comeback game for the Lankans – Dhoni made a mockery of the hapless Sri Lankan bowlers to bombard a magnificent 183 n.o. that helped India get past the SL score of 298 runs with relative ease! Earlier in the game, Atapattu called the toss right and elected to bat on a solid batting track. Though the Lankans started slowly, they regained their momentum with Sangakkara scoring a brilliant 138 n.o. The Lankan keeper carried the bat through the innings and with able support from Jayawardene put up a more than respectable score.

Chasing a huge target always needed a good start and cool head(s). India did not get the former (good start) when they lost Sachin very cheaply earlier in the innings. But the latter (cool head) was bountiful from the man who had kept wickets for 50 overs and from the word go – dispatched the ball all around the ground. All the Lankan bowlers with the exception of Murali were clobbered. Sehwag showed signs of aggressiveness and Dravid played a supportive innings. In the end it was Dhoni all the way – he produced a gem of an innings, scoring 183 of just 145 balls which consisted of 15 four’s and 10 sixes. Rightfully, Dhoni hit the winning runs and completed the innings with a huge six.

India scripted the 3rd victory in as many games leaving Sri Lanka wonder if this was the same team they had convincingly beaten a couple of months earlier. Dravid went on to say that they would have to start afresh for the remainder of the games – which is a good sign. The game was an absolute entertainment!
