Thanksgiving...

Wow...its already Thanksgiving 2006! Time flies or what?!? There is a lot to expect during Thanksgiving - the food, the hot deals, the sale, the crowd, shopping extravaganza! I see everyone at my office talking about Turkey, where are they gonna meet - mother's place or mother-in-law's place or in some cases mother's place or father's place! Some of my friends mentioned that this is the only time in a year they get to meet their parents even though they live only about 300 miles apart.

Thanksgiving day is chosen to give thanks traditionally to God, for the things one had at the close of the harvest season. Harvest festivals are celebrated all around the world, including our own Tamil Nadu as Pongal! We have Sankranti in Andhra and Karnataka; Lohri in Punjab and Haryana; guess some northern indian states call in Makar Sankranthi. Infact the ancient Greek, Roman, Hebrew, Chinese and Egyptian civilizations also celebrated Thanksgiving in their own fashion and tradition. Have wondered if any one has a tradition of shouting something similar to pongal o pongal!!! Compare the food on a Turkey day vs the Pongal day below...

My friend had posted on how we keep stuffing during thanksgiving while the rest of the world is busy working! How true?!? Turducken seems to be gaining popularity. Turducken (TURkey-DUCk-ChiKEN) is a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which in turn is stuffed with a de-boned chicken! Are you kidding me?!?! I believe this is also called chucky! Looks delicious though! ;-) Ok folks...enjoy the long weekend - whatever is left!
