Tri Series Finals - India vs Sri Lanka - India chokes again!

India - 263/9 in 50 Overs
Sri Lanka pulled off a thrilling victory in the finals of the Indian Oil Tri Series tournament. SL beat India in all departments by displaying a superior allround performance. India on the other hand, did seem to have things under control more than wid way through the game, until the wickets fell as a pack of cards.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. Vaas returned to the side for the finals. Lankans presented a full strength team and went off to a decent start but lost wickets at regular intervals. Mahela Jayawardene steadied the ship along with Arnold to notch up an excellent score. Earlier, Jayasuriya blasted off a well made 67 to lay the foundation to the big score. For India - both the spinners went wicketless and this proved decisive. Nehra claimed 6 wickets but could not prevent the run flow.
India got the start they needed with a blitzkrieg from Sehwag, who finally came good with the bat. At one stage India were 186/2 in 35 overs with the help of Dravid & Yuvraj. At this stage, India seemed to romp home to victory, but Yuvraj's dismissal signalled the Indian downfall. Kaif provided some resistance, but the run rate was on the rise and finally India ended up as the losing side (lost the count of finals they have lost in the recent years). After losing to Sri Lanka in both the league games and having one close game against the Windies, India did not deserve to win this tournament. However, the final seemed electrifying and brought about the lost energy - just to see the team lose and lose again! Wonder what happened to all the hype that revolved around Greg Chappel's innovative strategies. After all, it was not coz of Ganguly India was losing earlier. Guess...things should get back to the drawing board to get to the basics!

VJ, I had already commented the reason for India's failure, in one of your earlier blogs..
It's nothing to do with Sourav. People who bash Sourav, neither know what they are talking about nor they haven't watched Indian cricket for the last 3-4 years.
In addition to what I suggested the following also needs to be implemented.
1. Instead of giving huge salaries, give a low basic salary and give huge performace incentives. You win a mathc you get somuch bonus (all players). You win finals you get even more bonus.
2. From the time a player debuts in Indian cricket team, for 24 months he should not be in any commercials/endorsements. He can only sign for commercials/endorsements after proving himself for 24 months.
Thats what I would do if I was managing BCCI.
