India-Pak 2nd Test Day I - Pakistan slams the brakes on India's march
India vs Pakistan First Test - Day I
1st Innings - 344/6 90 overs
India won the toss and elected to bat on a good batting wicket. Ganguly is twice lucky with the toss - probably the only good contribution he makes.
India let go of a good grip of the 2nd test match after a solid start by the top order. India started off to a usual blitz from Sehwag and Gambhir. Gambir got out for a breezy 29. The first session yielded 135 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. Sehwag with the company of "The Wall" consolidated the score before he scooped a catch to Inzi for a well made 81. When things seem to be going India's way at 278/2, the slide started with Tendulkar getting out after his fifty. Yet another chance missed to go past the record of 35 centuries. However, this time inspite of his sedate start (18 balls to get off the mark) his scoring rate was much better than the one witnessed at Mohali.
Ganguly, Laxman (out for a golden duck) and Dravid soon followed suit. Dravid completed his century, but Pakistan have crawled their way back into the game. Looks like Indian team has taken the "Hospitality to Pakistanis" to their heart. The last 4 wickets fell in the last hour of the game and if Tendulkar and Dravid could have carried their bats, India would have knocked at the doors of victory. Now - India finds itself in the same situation - failure to consolidate!!!
Day II Prospects...
The Indian tail is exposed, so to expect them to bat any longer than the first session is wishful thinking. If they can put up a fight and take the total to more than 400 - it will be a psychological advantage. With Afridi in and Pakistan middle order and lower order firing - Pakistan is all set to take a good lead in the 1st innings.
