Tata Infotech GIS quips!
I started my so called IT career at Tata Infotech working in Geographic Information Systems. As it is there was no work to do ... but we have to sit in our desks and work on the maps, themes all day long even if it is to change colors! We used to have a lab room where about 8 people used to work(actually just sit) always.
We had a manager called Yogan (nice man) and what I am to describe below are his antics!
Avinash Bhat (Bhatta) and Yogan were supposed to go to Delhi for a GIS presentation on May 1st. Yogan got to know that his trip had to be postponed by a day. So, he dashed into the room and hunted for Bhatta (you see it is a bunch of people in that small room) and told him -"Bhatta - I won't be able to join you for 1st night. Hope you can manage things on your own!" By now, Bhatta and the rest of the folks in the room were dumbstruck! He continued - "Its okay - I will join you in the 2nd night and we can work things out together. It will be okay!"
There was a roar in the room after he left....
Tata Infotech was in a severe space crisis and the TIL think tank came up with the novel idea of shifts! (yes it is an IT company) Well so, Yogan took the onus on himself to split the GIS group into Day and Night shift. He made all of us squeeze into the lab room and started assigned slots. Room was becoming warmer and we were all feeling uncomfortable with the Bangalore heat taking the better of the half-working air-condition. After a long discussion, where guys gave a lot of inputs, it so happened that everyone still wanted to be in day shift. Yogan was disappointed that the girls did not opine anything. So he goes - "You girls are neither showing anything or opening up!"
Ooops...the poor girls did not know what to do rather than put their heads down!!!
He gave an assignment to two of my colleagues - Bala and Deepa. Both of them are nerds and seldom talk to anyone else in the group. They are quite and always concentrate on the work. A couple of days after the commencement of the task - our friend Yogan walks into the room - looks at Deepa and Bala and says "Whatz going on between you two?" Everyone in the room were like - "What??!?! Is something supposed to be going on between the two?!?"
